FAQ

Lesson Fees

Qn: How long is each session?

Every session is approximately 1.5h. Depending on the students’ questions and activity, some sessions may take longer than usual, spanning to 2h or more. However, there are some other chapters which are easier to grasp, the lesson may end slightly earlier.

Qn: How do you charge?

I charge on a per month upfront basis. Tuition fees are to be collected on every first week of the month. If the fees are not paid by the 2nd lesson of the week, the student will be suspended from the classes thereafter until full fees are paid. I do not collect any deposit or registration fees.

Qn: What if I miss a lesson?

I allow 1 rescheduling of lesson for free per month. If there are more rescheduling in the month, student must submit a parent’s letter with a strong reason for the reschedule purposes. If there are more rescheduling requests in a month, I will strongly suggest to change the time slot for the student to prevent further disruption to the rest of the class. If a student fails to produce a parent’s letter before lesson starts, the student is liable for the full fee incurred for the lesson conducted.

Qn: What if teacher is unable to attend lessons instead?

There will be occassions where I have to cancel or postpone the lessons due to personal reasons. In such cases, I will inform the affected parents and give a prorated refund upon the next monthly payment.

Lesson Structures

Qn: Do you have a syllabus run down?

Yes I do have. However, I do not follow strictly to them. My syllabus run down is almost the same as MOE textbook order, except for a few chapters which are prerequisites to other chapters. I adjust my lessons to my students’ requirements for their school lessons, and I am usually faster than teachers because of the lack of “Laboratory periods”.

Qn: How do you do your revision?

I will finish the chapters first, run through the worksheets, and then students will have to sit for a Topical test for all chapters. These questions are handpicked from the top schools in Singapore, including prelim papers questions to drill the students.

Qn: Do you separate students of different capabilities?

Yes, there are differentiated worksheets. For group classes, if the student is significantly slower than the rest in a certain topic, I will request to pull the student out for 1-1 sessions before joining back again.

Qn: My child / I have missed some of the chapters you have taught because we enrolled late. How can I get to learn them?

Don’t worry, you can always arrange for a 1-1 lesson with me at a special rate if you have signed up for my online tutoring. I will guide you through. However, you are not encouraged to pop the questions in the main lesson group. I will address those questions separately with you and let others have a good tuition experience.

Alternatively, I do update my website with videos. Although not in full lesson length, you may get some free input from me as well.

Qn: Do you provide crash courses?

Let us be honest about it. How effective do you think if a teacher cramps 9 months of work into 1 month? The answer for this is no. I am not a miracle maker, neither am I a person who over promises. However, if you wish to have private consultation last minute with me, feel free to drop me a message and I will try my best to facilitate your revision.

Holidays / Block-out periods

Qn: Do you teach on public holidays?

I try not to. This is because I do respect family time for your family, and also for me. However if the situation calls for a need to have tuition on public holidays (for example nearing to exams), I will not hesitate to conduct these lessons as they are critical for students.

Qn: Do you teach in June and December holidays?

June – Yes.

December – Not for the entire month. I do conduct a one-time bridging course during the last week of December to bridge my students from Sec 2 – Sec 3, and Sec 3-4 syllabus for a good head start. However, if you wish to have tuition lessons for the month of December, please let me know early.

Other Questions

Qn: Whats your proficiency in teaching?

I have been teaching since I graduated. I have taught in IP school, and generally IP students from Hwa Chong Institution, Raffles Institution, Raffles Girls’ School and SCGS. My notes and worksheets are based on Physics fundamentals to scaffold students to think out of the box and applying to new concepts.

Qn: Can you guarantee results?

Yes. This is definite provided that the students followed all my instructions and lessons with detail.

Qn: Do you give feedback to parents?

Yes. I keep a regular record of my lessons on what has been done, and also constructive feedback on how each student should work on for their weak points. This also helps facilitate the students for revision during exam period.
